Creating boundaries to run a successful business and live a life you love part 1: Life

I want you to take a moment and think about your day today.

Did it go the way you wanted it to?

I want you to take another moment and think about how your week went.

Did it go the way you wanted it to?

Now think about the past month and how that went.

Did that go the way you wanted it to?

Chances are that the answer to one or all of these questions is “no” or “it could have been better”.

The next thing I want you to do is figure out why or why not things are going the way you want them to.

What is it that you would have liked today to look like? What would your ideal life be like?

Let’s work through helping you get there.

What few people realize is that living a life we love comes from creating it. It requires decisions and boundaries.

1. Decisions

It all starts with you deciding what you want your life to look like. Why? Because if you don’t decide then everything else will for you. That can include life itself, your family, your friends, your obligations, etc.

When you sit down and decide what you want your life to look like than you are the one creating your perfect life instead of letting someone else create a mediocre one for you. Then, when you create boundaries, you ensure that things will go that way.

2. Boundaries

Let’s talk about creating boundaries in life. It starts with knowing how you want your day/week to run. It consists of answering questions like:

What days do you want to work and what days do you want to have off?

What times do you want to work?

When do you rest and relax?

When is your personal time going to be?

What would you like to make a priority?

Answering those questions will lead you to create work days/hours (especially if you work for yourself and/or from home) and then give you the ability to communicate that to clients/team members to ensure that you and they respect that. You also decide what days you want to have off and what days you work. And here’s the thing, once you decide you can’t let yourself or your clients compromise that.

When you choose to show up as your best self (which you will decide what that is by doing this) you serve your clients better. If that means sleeping in or working later or having time off in between days or clients then do that. When you show up better you provide higher quality, can raise your prices and have happier client relationships. You and your business become more successful.

Figure out what you want your life to look like and then create it. Set boundaries in order to maintain it. You and your business will thank you for it.
