As a business owner youhave probably heard about the importance of blogging and building your email list. Maybe you find yourself wondering why these things are so important?
After all, you probably have a lot of other things to do that seem more important.
Well, as a business owner and marketer, I can tell you that blogging and building your email list are key to creating a sustainable business. Why? Because they bring clients in and clients equal money and money equals sustainability.
When you blog you build trust and when you send emails to people who trust you, you can sell.
So, now that we’ve covered the importance of blogging and building your email list, let’s talk about how to do it.
1. Create strategic content for your blog
Okay, so now that you are (hopefully) convinced that you should start a blog, don’t just start one and share random posts. Everything needs to be strategic. The content you post on your blog should be something your ideal client will be interested in and also a problem you can solve with your services. This will get your ideal clients to engage and position you as the solution (aka getting hired for work).
2. Never waste a blog article by not having a CTA
This is where the good stuff comes in. When you right a blog article about a problem, you need to present yourself as the solution and present your audience with the opportunity to work with you. One of the best ways to do this is to position a clear CTA (call-to-action) at the bottom of each blog article. Make it something relevant to what was discussed in the article. One of the best ways to approach this is to create a freebie or an opt-in they can download in exchange for their email-hence the list building. Most people will be willing to exchange their email address for something free they care about. So make sure your freebie is strategic (like your content).
3. Promote! Promote! Promote!
As a marketer one of the biggest mistakes I see people make is only promoting their blog articles once. You spend so much time coming up with an idea, writing it out, editing it, finding an image and maybe even creating a design. Promoting it only once means missed opportunity. It’s encouraged that you promote your blog articles 3-5x for maximum exposure. I say even 2-3 times is better than once. Write your article, and promote it multiple times on multiple platforms. Then you will get more traffic to your blog, more eyeballs on your freebie, and more email subscribers.
