The Entrepreneur's Guide to Productivity: Mindset

One of the things I have always prided myself in as a person is how productive I can be. I often found myself bored in my corporate jobs because I would complete the tasks assigned to me really quickly and find myself with extra time.

In one of my earlier field marketing jobs, I was given the goal to visit 15 businesses per week with marketing pitches. I exceeded the goal by visiting 40-50 businesses per week causing an increase in sales which eventually led to me training other field marketers how to do the same while overseeing 4-5 of our locations throughout Southern California. The best part about it was that I only worked about 15 hours a week.

I’ve since carried my productivity hacks with me into entrepreneurship and are the reason why I am able to run a profitable business while only working 3-4 days a week for around 4 hours per day.

This entire month, I want to peel back the curtains and let you in on my productivity hacks. I’ll be diving into 3 main areas:

  1. Time

  2. Tasks

  3. Tools

    Before we dive into these topics, I want to start by talking to you about the mindset around productivity so that you have the right approach and foundation for my hacks.

    First and foremost, I want you to take a current analysis of what your week looks liker right now. What does your day look like? Are you feeling overwhelmed? Stressed? I want to encourage you to really dive deep into what is causing you to feel this way.

    Often times, I find that my clients are doing more than they need to be doing both in their personal lives and in their business. This can look like saying yes to things you don’t need to say yes to, or having a lot of things you need to do but trying to do it all yourself.

    This is where the two mindset shifts needs to happen.

    #1 You don’t have to say yes to everything

    Have you ever found yourself saying yes to something out of guilt? Or out of FOMO (fear of missing out)? If you want to be productive, it’s time to stop doing that.

    ACTION STEP:

    An easy way to get rid of the things you should not be doing right now is to make a list of everything you are currently doing. Circle all of the things you know you actually need in this season of life. Then, get rid of everything that is not circled.

    #2 You don’t have to do it all yourself

    This is one of the biggest misconceptions I see among women. We want to do it all and we want to do it all ourselves. I am a big believer that we can do all of the things that we want to do, however, I believe that the only way to do it all is to have support. I believe this for both the business and the home. Whether it’s involving your partner in house chores or tasks, outsourcing work things, hiring a cleaner, childcare, investing in a coach, etc. SUPPORT is the answer to SUCCESS.

    ACTION STEP:

    Make a list of all the things you currently do and then number the things you would like to get support with based on what you would like to outsource first. Then, ask yourself what you can start to invest in now and start there.

    The sooner you start to get support, the faster you will grow. We can’t create more time, but we can learn to manage it better and when you learn how to focus on the tasks that you need to focus on and get support for the rest you’ll succeed much quicker.
