What are you afraid of?
I mean really, truly and honestly afraid of?
Here’s the fact: everyone has fears.
The digital world today can make it seem like everybody is fearless except you. It’s simply not true. Every single person you see has had fears they have had to overcome to get to where they are, and so have you.
When it comes to business, there are so many different kinds of fears that get in the way. Fears like:
What will people think of me?
Will anyone buy from me?
Am I good enough?
Can this really and truly happen for me?
What if I fail?
What if I succeed?
What if I’m not smart enough?
What if I’m not pretty enough?
Do any of these resonate with you? Perhaps there are some other fears that come up for you. The point is, we all have them, and it’s when we choose to dig deep into those fears and address them that we find the strength and the ability to go after our dreams.
That’s the secret to overcoming your fears: facing them.
Let me tell you a true story.
This coaching business is the third business I have started. My first business was a magazine I sold, and my second business was a creative agency I started with my husband. The agency was a business that did very well and throughout the entire time I was an entrepreneur coaching was something I deeply desired to do. I mentored women on the side and helped them start their business and loved it more than anything else!
The problem was that I was afraid. I was afraid to start a business and build a brand around myself. I was afraid to use my face and my name and to put it out there.
This fear kept me from building this business for YEARS!
Looking back, those are years I spent not doing the thing that would bring me the most joy and fulfillment.
Do you want to know how I overcame those fears? It was by forcing myself to do it.
I decided that I had let too much time go by without doing what I really and truly wanted to do, and that was to help women build their businesses.
I forced myself to face my fears afraid. I created my website (and still took a few months to launch it) and I started to slowly but surely put myself out there.
To be honest, I hated it. I would post something about my coaching business with my name and my face and I hated it. But I made myself do it because I wanted to deliver the value. I wanted to show up and give and help and serve the women who had a dream on their heart. I knew that this was the way to do it.
I wasn’t going to let my fear hold me back any longer.
Now, I want to ask you the same question and give you the same challenge.
How much longer are you going to let your fears stop you from doing what you want to do?
Here’s a reality check (because I care about you), if you are waiting for your fears to go away before you move forward it’s never going to happen. You have to do it afraid. Do it again and again until it gets easier.
Don’t let your fears stop you from building your dream.
You CAN do this, so why won’t you?
Face that fear in the face and do it afraid. I promise you won’t regret it.
